THE LISTENERS'Is there anybody there?’ said the Traveller,Knocking on the moonlit door; And his horse in the silence champed the grassesOf the forest’s ferny floor:And a bird flew up out of the turret,Above the Traveller’s head:And he smote upon the door again a second time;‘Is there anybody there?’ he said. But no one descended to the Traveller; No head from the leaf-fringed sillLeaned over and looked into his grey eyes,Where he stood perplexed and still. But only a host of phantom listenersThat dwelt in the lone house thenStood listening in the quiet of the moonlightTo that voice from the world of men:Stood thronging the faint moonbeams on the dark stair,That goes down to the empty hall,Hearkening in an air stirred and shakenBy the lonely Traveller’s call. And he felt in his heart their strangeness,Their stillness answering his cry,While his horse moved, cropping the dark turf,’Neath the starred and leafy sky;For he suddenly smote on the door, evenLouder, and lifted his head:—‘Tell them I came, and no one answered,That I kept my word,’ he said.Never the least stir made the listeners,Though every word he spakeFell echoing through the shadowiness of the still houseFrom the one man left awake:Ay, they heard his foot upon the stirrup,And the sound of iron on stone,And how the silence surged softly backward,When the plunging hoofs were gone.

A Little Direction Please
by Brian J ini'm an active elder, cobe, just got home from the meeting where i handled the treasures part and concluded by announcing a friend of mine has been d/f,.....blah blah blah...and over the last year have woken up.
i simply cannot spill my guts to my wife and children as it would be family suicide.
i have zero desire to bash, spread my feelings, or become an "apostate".

Welcome, Brian, and please stay with us.
I cannot add much to the helpful, tried-and-tested suggestions already offered.
Leaving "The Truth" some years ago has produced certain residual effects and collateral damage, even in my dreams. Just last night I dreamed I was at the convention (no more, in reality) and my family looked at me, averted their brief gaze, and walked on. Dreams are so mixed up -- I was at the convention, being a good JW!
Those ongoing dreams reflect my daily reality. It's sad, but I remain hopeful. I stay busy with meaningful activities and associate with people who care.
Best Wishes.

If you have Windows 10 . . .
by compound complex inmy roommate bought a new dell laptop, operated by windows 10. in the three weeks he's had it, it's online then goes offline (and this repeatedly): when he goes from one e-mail to another, when he engages in a financial transaction, when he opens a new webpage, etc.
he does the basic rebooting, as prescribed in the article whose link is attached.
his pc and my older dell and apple powerbook are all on wifi.

Thanks, ShirleyW and nicolaou!
Not boring to me! Very helpful info.
In my nearly 18 years on this site this must vie for the dullest most boring post I ever made! -- nicolaou

California Tubbs Fire photos you might not find find anywhere else...
by La Capra into quote someone near and dear: they should have built the whole kingdom hall out of the same thing they built the signs.... i had to wait nearly two weeks to get into the neighborhood to get these pictures for your voyeuristic interests...this is peanuts compared to the over 5,000 homes that were destroyed (this number includes individual units in large apartment complexes that were completely razed).
those pictures and videos are available in the media.

There was fire in my community.
Insurers will pay for the trees, but I don't know how the damage is rated and what they end up paying.

Thanks, Simon, for your observation.
As you might recall, I have brought up my issues here, re: my DELL laptop and Apple PowerBook G4.
The DELL, with Windows Ultimate 7, has been virtually trouble-free, and it is second-hand. The Apple, also second-hand and a much more expensive laptop, is great for photos; however, more and more apps and webpages are unavailable to me because it will not upgrade.
I love my little, cheapie DELL.

It may not necessarily be Windows 10 but could be an issue with the wifi adaptor (hardware) in his laptop. -- Incognito
Tech came out today and replaced the above.
Thanks again!

Witness Royalty and the last day at the "Towers"
by Lynnie inmy uber elder cousin and his wife got the "privilege" of having one last "toast" of wine at the rooftop garden at the towers in nyc since the jw's are vacating to warwick.
his oldest daughter and son in law are quite high up in the inner circle so they get invited to all the "inner circle" activities.
even though they aren't supposed to toast to anything it was pretty darn close.

I remember their driving Oldsmobile 98s, back in the early '70s. I was surprised that the one I looked into had crank windows!

If Elders and Ministerial Servants did what Michael Fallon has done, few would remain
by Isambard Crater inover the years i have seen plenty of elders and ministerial servants touch other j.w's knees, thighs, give very long and intimate hugs, blah, blah, blah.
i know of other sisters who have felt really uncomfortable with such behaviour, but the brothers have just explained that they're being loving as caring christian friends, so they get away with it.
it angers me that no j.w's will speak out about historic or ongoing inappropriate touching for fear of being disfellowshipped or losing the hope of paradise..

It works both ways, male to female, female to male. My comments are relative to tactile human contact per se, not necessarily that initiated by the higher ups in JW society.
Because of my background and personal "wiring," I'm all right with a brief, "hello" or "goodbye" hug. Beyond that, like getting too up close and personal, I am uncomfortable.
Being friendly and warm towards others -- outgoing -- is not an invitation to cross boundaries. I speak for myself.

Nowadays, we get to live longer!
Time was that what we went through killed many. I learned, however, that genetic predisposition factors in. Yet, a healthy diet and exercise do matter.
